Background
At Democritus University of Thrace, organized counseling and psychological support services have been provided since 2016, the year of establishment of the Psychosocial Support Service for students at D.U.Th. (PSSS—Decision No. 102/19/19.11.2015).
In 2018, The Counseling and Accessibility Unit (DOSYP) of Democritus University of Thrace was established, founded by the University Senate Decision No. 40/51/12.12.2017 funded by the PA (Partnership Agreement for the Development Framework) 2014-2020, through the act “Supporting social care interventions for the students of the Democritus University of Thrace”. The purpose of DOSYP was to promote constructive learning, academic success, and socialization among D.U.Th. students, with a particular focus on students facing psychosocial challenges, special circumstances, or disabilities.
Since 2023, the Psychological and Counseling Support Center (KEPSYSY) has been established and is operating in accordance with legal provisions, as well as the relevant decision of the D.U.Th. Senate (Decision No. 5/97/16-11-2023 – Government Gazette B 6744/01.12.2023).
KEPSYSY’s primary mission is to provide psychological and counseling support services and to prevent mental health issues among members of the university community. KEPSYSY activities are coordinated by a Five-Member Scientific Committee, formed by Senate decision, consisting of faculty members specializing in psychiatry, psychology, and social work.
Psychological counseling services are provided free of charge, are strictly confidential, and comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regarding privacy protection.
